**Redis** keeps data in memory, which gives sub-millisecond reads and writes. It is used for caching, sessions, queues and rate limiting. On AWS it is offered as a managed service by [Amazon ElastiCache](https://www.itwonderlab.com/aws-elasticache/).

### Key concepts

- **Key-value** store with strings, lists, sets, hashes and streams.
- **Persistence**: optional snapshots and append-only logs.
- Often run as a container in [Docker Compose](https://www.itwonderlab.com/docker-compose/).

### Learn it

See it running in the [Docker Compose tutorial](https://www.itwonderlab.com/docker-compose-tutorial/).

Run it with [Install Redis with Docker](https://www.itwonderlab.com/install-redis-docker/).
