**AWS Transit Gateway** is a managed regional router. Instead of a mesh of peering connections, each [VPC](https://www.itwonderlab.com/aws-vpc/) creates one attachment to the gateway, and route tables control which networks can reach each other. It also connects site-to-site VPNs and Direct Connect, and can be shared with other accounts using AWS RAM.

It is charged per attachment per hour and per GB processed. For two or three VPCs, peering is cheaper. See [peering vs Transit Gateway with Terraform](https://www.itwonderlab.com/terraform-aws-vpc-peering-transit-gateway/).
